What your kids will learn
Children will learn the basics of street Salsa dancing in a
fun and interactive environment. Street Salsa is typically
known for its more expressive and unrestricted style of
dancing, its freedom of expression is one of its most
attractive features. Contrary to popular belief, Salsa is
not all about being sexy or seductive. Find out more in our FAQ section.
Your children will learn:
Musicality
Children will be introduced to Latin music, they will learn
to understand rhythm and timing in music.
Turns
Children will learn simple left and right turns with their
basic footwork, which can be done on their own or with their
partners. Learning turns will help children understand their
body dynamics as they gain a sense of balance and control
over their bodies.
Leading & following technique
Children will learn the basic techniques of how to lead and
follow. In this process, children will start to understand
the concept of cause and effect that underpins all partner
dances. They will also realise how their actions can affect
their partners. Children will learn how to interact with
each other and also pick up social skills along the way.
Partnerwork
Children will learn various turn patterns which they can
execute with their partners, in any sequence and to any
salsa song. This is the point where children are encouraged
to use their creativity to join different turn patterns or
even to create their own moves. Children will learn how to
coordinate their hands and feet movement with what they
think, see and hear.
Shines
Shines are also known as dancing solo in salsa. It consists
of mostly footwork and some arm movements, as students
progress they are encouraged to introduce more body movement
into their dancing. Shines are sheer creativity, children
are taught a sequence of footwork but are encouraged to
improvise on that make it their own.
Spins
Spinning is one of the most challenging components of Salsa
dancing and is taught much later on, once children have a
better understanding of bodies and have good coordination.
Spinning helps children acquire immense body control,
coordination, balance and reaction.
