FAQs for Kids Salsa Classes

1. What attire should my child wear?

Your child can wear anything that is comfortable and allows them to stretch and perspire in. As for footwear, children are encouraged to wear dance sneakers, jazz shoes or ballets shoes.

If dance shoes are not available, then children can wear sneakers, which do not have too much friction. No slippers, sandles, sports shoes or shoes with rubber soles. Heels are not encouraged until much later.

2. Do they need a partner?

No, partners are not required.

3. Is Salsa too sensual a dance for young children?

Salsa is not all about sensuality. That is a common misconception popularized by mass media. The beauty of Salsa dancing is in the freedom of expression. In fact, most partner moves involve the open-hold rather than close-hold, so Salsa is not as ‘touchy’ a dance as most may think.

Moreover, the focus of classes is on fun, creativity and self-discovery.
